Construction 3: Reflections on our Main Shoot Session

Our main shoot was the most important part of our project yet, as we had to gather a lot of our footage from scratch. This was because we did not have all of our actors during the test shoot. However, the test shoot gave us the chance to practice taking these shots, so we were confident going into the shoot as we knew what improvements we needed to make.
Our shoot-board had many mistakes in the
test shoot. This line should not be on either
of these shots, let alone both

The two biggest issues with our test shoot were problems with our lighting and mistakes on the shoot-board. To make sure that we did not run into the same problems as last time, we decided to light each actor individually rather than use two lights for the whole scene. This allowed us to control how much light was directed towards each actor.

Unfortunately, the work ethic of other members in the group was inadequate for what was required in order to gather enough footage, which meant that we were missing shots by the end of our shoot session.

Furthermore, many of these shots had poor lighting, which meant that they were unusable when it came to post-production.
Some shots from our main shoot
were lit very poorly

Overall, our main shoot could have gone better. The problems we had in our test shoot were present once again, which meant that only about half of the footage we gathered was usable. This ended up being an issue during our first week of editing as we had to recycle a lot of our footage from the test shoot. We have already planned a back-up shoot, as it is difficult to get use of the studio in short notice and it is clear that we will need one.
